Ox Roxley "roxing" out at the Music Boutique

Ox Roxley is the name of the next set of hands helping out JerseyMic.com. He’s agreed to send me video clips from open mics he goes to, shortened to include the best 30 seconds from different acts of the night.

Be excited! He’s been to three other open mics this week alone, including:

And he’s got clips from the three of them! I’ll be uploading them here soon, but if you want to find out more about Ox Roxley, check out his myspace at:

http://www.myspace.com/oxroxley

He’s a Brigantine local and a very talented musician. Expect a blast of posts coming up with video clips from him and hopefully some reviews if he feels so inclined!

New Calendar of Open Mic Nights in New Jersey

A new feature is the calendar, now available on the list of open mics page. You can integrate it into your own Google calendar. You can print it too! And it instantly maps the location. I’m repositioning some stuff on the site now, so the list page admittedly needs cleaning, but check it out!

Wait a while for new gigs at Sherlock's

Just got an update from the owners over at Sherlock’s. They’re taking a break from the open mic scene for a little bit. It looks like they’ll be the hosts from now on too.

In other news, I’m going to be looking for volunteers soon, so if you’re interesting in helping out, send an email to

Sherlock’s Books and Cafe – New Addition

I was going over to see Alex Siniari perform his last open mic gig the other night over at Sherlock’s Books and Cafe, and I noticed some new stuff going on! They took out the wall next door to them and gained a TON of space. I took a couple shots so I can update the original review page, but I figured it was worth a new post too.

Bye Alex! Good Luck on your new live shows!

They’ve expanded by offering cases filled by other vendors. You can purchase a lot of different things there.

Lots to choose from

So congrats to Sherlock’s Books & Cafe and the O’Tooles! They got it done in record timing — I walked in the night they ripped the wall down and it hasn’t been more than two or three weeks since then.

Have you noticed any new construction in the area lately?

This graph defines progress as a neverending process.

So the latest posts on JerseyMic haven’t been about any open mics at all. Or about South Jersey. In fact, the latest post on JerseyMic is about changing JerseyMic for the better. And if you somehow stumbled on this post without seeing the previous one, you can see it below:

Focusing JerseyMic and to-do lists

Outside of responding to some comments lately, it wouldn’t look like much is happening on the site. However…there is a lot being done, and I’m taking the time in this post to briefly update everyone.

The first major update is the “More features” point of the list. I’ve been working on database of the open mics to integrate into the site. There’s nothing to show because it’ll either be live or it won’t–there’s no middle ground.

The second major update is the “pix-and-stix” point. The “pix” have been made and the “stix” are ready to go. The web interface has yet to be implemented but it’s a lot further along (research-wise) than it was a week ago.

Or it could be in another coffee house!

Finally, while it isn’t an update, I’m getting used to my new fall schedule. It is hectic! Full time school and 22 hours of work is not an easy thing to dive into, but I should be able to sort everything out fine. I’d like to thank everyone that has been commenting; you really make me want to keep going and it’s important. Thank you.
