YouTube of all the pictures from Tunes Against Turmoil 2

There were a LOT of bands, so it’s going to take a little bit longer to post their information, especially with finals today. In the meantime, check out this video of the pictures from TAT2. Google took away the music, so put iTunes on in the background

Dedicated to Darfur, Open for Signatures

Dedicated to Darfur, Open for Signatures

Welcome to the second installment of Tunes Against Turmoil 2 (the review!) We didn’t finish thanking everyone from the first post about Tunes Against Turmoil 2. First, a thanks to Mr. Steve Marcus, the faculty adviser over the event. He introduced the performers and had a hand in the Darfur Coffee House, a separate effort to raise money through music to aid Doctors Without Borders.

Tunes Against Turmoil 2 on May 10th, 2009 at Tony Canale Park in EHT, NJ: Overview

Tunes Against Turmoil II at Canale Park in EHT, NJ

Tunes Against Turmoil II at Canale Park in EHT, NJ

As our twitter account stated, JerseyMic was at Tunes Against Turmoil 2, and there are TONS of pictures. There were supporters, bands, poets, and doctors. In fact one of our tweets predicted that it was going to be a multiple post event. As the title points out, this is the overview post. Pictures of bands and invited guests will be coming in the next day.

So first off, what is Tunes Against Turmoil? On DoSomething.org, “Tunes Against Turmoil 2” highlights the problem in Darfur,

“The situation occurring in Darfur is unimaginable. People are being tortured, driven out of their homes, and killed by their government. The project that I am a part of believes that this needs to be stopped. Most people do not even know that a genocide is currently occurring. We even received the question “Who’s Darfur?” Our goal is to raise awareness and make this genocide end as soon as possible to save as many lives as possible.

JerseyMic has a Squidoo Lens!

http://www.squidoo.com/JerseyMic

We are FULL of updates! JerseyMic.com now has a Squidoo Lens! What is Squidoo?

Squidoo is the popular publishing platform and community that makes it easy for you to create “lenses” online. Lenses are pages, kind of like flyers or signposts or overview articles, that gather everything you know about your topic of interest–and snap it all into focus. (You’re looking at a lens right now).

It’s a supersimple, fun and powerful way to share your interests, build your online identity and credibility, and connect with new readers and friends. It’s all free, and you could even earn a royalty for charity or yourself!

And check it out, they have grown 91% in 2008, and have been reviewed in the New York Times! We wanted a part of that action, and we got it!

So check us out at http://www.squidoo.com/JerseyMic

BAYFEST 2009 Somers Point NJ

Bayfest Banner

Bayfest Banner

We here at JerseyMic.com are all about covering the local South NJ area open mics. But every once in a while there are events like Bayfest that require their own post. I grabbed a couple pictures today from Somers Point NJ’s Bayfest.  In case you haven’t heard of Bayfest, you can check out the official website at:

http://www.somerspointbayfest.org/pages/home.asp

From the website:

The Somers Point Bayfest is now the largest, single day festival in South Jersey. Here is information on this great family day!

WHO
Presented by the Somers Point Bayfest Committee, the City of Somers Point, and local area sponsors. To contact the Committee call 888.300.9010 or send email to somerspointbayfest@comcast.net

WHEN
Saturday April 25th, 2009 from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM, Rain or Shine.

WHERE
Historic Bay Avenue in Somers Point, conveniently located near the Atlantic City Expressway and Garden State Parkway, and just minutes from Ocean City.

OF COURSE the primary focus was on the local bands. The first one on the list is Shore Thing. Shore Thing’s website can be found here. They were right on the bay, playing to the street filled with people and to the kids on the slides.

Did they have enough guitars? I lost count after three.

Right near them was The Founders, a 6 person Irish-influenced band. They were a really tight band with a cool funky sound.

They were complete with bagpipes and a Didgeridoo! They rocked out in full kilts:

“Bound By Nothing” was set up at Pleasant and Bay avenue. I didn’t get the chance to hear them play, but I took a shot of the stage. They in front of the BMX bikers and skateboarders.

The streets were filled with craft booths and plenty of food. I mean PLENTY of food. (quick warning!)

And these kids were having a lot more fun than that pig:
