Last week singer-songwriter Alex Siniari (of AlexSiniari.blogspot.com fame) and I went to Red Bank, NJ for an open mic. At over an hour and a half away, it’s a “road trip” for an open mic. And with any roadtrip, there are stories to tell.

What am I trying to say?

Going out to Red Bank was a blast and the open mic was incredible. This post is a bunch of unrelated, but funny and personal insight into the trip.

Alex and I met up at Sherlock’s Books & Cafe for the trip. When we got there, we took pictures outside of the building:

And if you weren’t sure before, this is also the post where I reveal my identity. Which is why I put this part past the “Click to read more” line on the first page. I’m Stan Schwertly. (Remind me to update the “About Us” page, someone).

The theatre next door was a pretty interesting building, regardless of how irrelevant it was to the open mic:

The place we went, known as the Red Bank Music Community open mic, was temporarily being held up in the second floor of a professional building. On it’s own, going up steps and down a hallway is a lot different than any other open mic I’ve been to. (Do you now know why this is tagged as “rambling”?)

[removed at request of Red Bank Music Community]Part of this post might be useful in the sense that it’ll convince everyone that we have souls, personalities, and a general connection to the rest of humanity:

[removed at request of Red Bank Music Community]Some of the quick stories include:

  • purposefully going down a one way entrance to the parkway and being honked at a lot.
  • finding safe parking for 15 minutes
  • boring drivers with uselessly pink and purple headlights that refuse to race

The outro for this post are a couple of dark photos showing the drive back home. You can catch a little extra story over at Alex’s blog: http://AlexSiniari.blogspot.com
