Jeff Caraway at Coffee.Comedy on July 21st, 2009

Jeff!

Jeff!

Jeff Caraway (former host of Storm) had an event at Coffee.Comedy on Tuesday that had a little bit of everything. It started at 7pm and went on throughout the night. Outside of the wide-array of instruments (including piano, guitar, and mandolin), there were plenty of assisting performers and a good crowd.

There were kids playing along and people clapping along as Jeff sang through his large catalog of originals. He also invited several performers up to join him or play solo. Among those invited were:

  • Sammy Stiles
  • Sarah Bucknam
  • Stan Schwertly
  • Jack Black

Jeff entertained past 9pm and didn’t miss a beat. He didn’t stop when his partner and lead guitarist Brian Wells was nowhere to be seen. He even joked in the middle of one of his songs saying, “Take it way Brian!”. It was a great time.

Jeff again!

Jeff again!

Coffee.Comedy is right next to the boardwalk in Sea Isle City, NJ, and a nice place (especially in the summer). The owners have friendly toward me since the beginning, and I think that says a lot.

The Doris Jazz Room on July 9th, 2009 open mic/meeting (packed w/info)

The Doris Jazz Room

Jazz

The Doris Jazz Room is located in Pleasantville, NJ. Last night, in light of the recent news that Pratt’s Hill of Beans is moving from their EHT location, the Thursday night open mic was held at The Doris Jazz Room. Ray Tyler was the host and he went out of his way to make sure there was an event for Thursday night.

Fortunately, and unfortunately, the night was much smaller than expected:

But don’t let the small turnout fool you. From this open mic was some of the best conversation and exchange this side of open mics. And The Doris Jazz Room happened to be the debut of JerseyStix, explained after the fold!

Last night turned out great! We had a band show up at the open mic, as well as all the regulars. It picked up, especially considering it was the first week after the announcement that it would be held every other week.

There are lots of pictures. Jeff, Sarah, Stan, Jenn, and Eddie sang last night. The group called “Passenger” also sang, and here’s a video of them below.

Check out the video and let me know below what you think! The group includes:

  • Mike Josephsen – singer
  • Ryan Colvin – guitarist
  • Kevin Smith – bass

Here’s the pictures!

Great job everyone!

  2. Sammy Stiles – original music
  3. Darren Palmer – original poems, including “What For, Darfur?”
  4. Barry Aishton – instrumental guitar
  5. Lolita – original poems

  7. Alex Siniari asked about “weekly gripes” and “things to be thankful for” in the same question!
  8. Ondrea Siniari – original poems
  9. Jeff Sharky – comedy
  10. Rebecca Numchick – cover songs by Melody Gardot
