Storm is on Hiatus, JerseyMic updates

So Storm is going on Hiatus until some time in June. If you haven’t read about it, check out the review of storm HERE or you can see pictures from the event:

May 4th Pictures

May 11th Pictures

Anyway, we look forward to updates on what’s happening over at Pratt’s Hill of Beans. You can use the search bar on the right and type in “Pratt’s” to find out more about what happens at Pratt’s Hill of Beans in EHT NJ, or you can click Our List of Open Mics to get a taste of what there is out there.

JerseyMic is implementing new, better ways to support itself.

The site has been live for over a month now, and the first solid month (May) is almost over. Expect a report on how JerseyMic’s first month went and hopefully, a better way of including advertising that won’t be so annoying.

Also!

We’re thinking of getting a forum. Would a forum sound interesting to you? Would you participate? Let us know in the comments section. Just type in your name and email, along with a “Yes” or “No”. How can we make JerseyMic better for you?

Storm Open Mic on May 4th, 2009 at Pratt’s in EHT

Here are the pictures from Storm Open Mic on May 4th, 2009 at Pratt’s Hill of Beans in Egg Harbor Township, NJ. As reviewed previously, the Storm Open Mic night hosted by Jeff Conoway is a much more loose setting than anything out there. As such, there’s a little less “So-and-so played xxx” in this post. We got names of songs but last names of performers was a little bit tougher! Still, enjoy the pictures:

Randy and Jeff playing

Randy and Jeff Caraway playing

Randy played three of his originals,

  • “Mrs. Perfect”
  • “Working on the Side of the Road”
  • “Wanna Go Home”
Eric and Jeff playing

Eric Johnston and Jeff Caraway playing

Eric has an operatic voice and sang

  • “Bridge Over Troubled Water”
  • “She’s Got a Way”
Stan and Jeff covering the Beatles

James Montgomery playing at STORM

James Montgomery played

  • “Queen of Hearts”
  • “Till There was You”

And a special shoutout to Brian Wells, who played solo guitar for many of the acts. He’s really talented

And probably my favorite picture from the night!

This is off Jeff, Sarah, Eric, and Kellen. Kellen is a human mic stand as Sarah and Eric singing Jewel’s “Who Will Save Your Soul?”

Again, try to check it out on Monday nights at Pratt’s in EHT!

“Storm” Open Mic Monday Nights at Pratt’s in EHT, NJ

Pratt's Hill of Beans in EHT, NJ

STORM

When you hear the word “Storm”, you usually think of thunder, lightning, and rain (and who hasn’t been thinking of rain lately?). At Pratt’s Hill of Beans in Egg Harbor Township in NJ, you’ll be electrified by the time you’ll have at Storm. “Storm” is the name of the open mic currently being hosted by Jeff Conoway. The open mic is from 8pm-10pm, and the main focus is having a good time.

Rather than having assigned slots for each performer, Jeff loosens things up by calling people in what he calls his “Kumbaya” style night. Everyone gets a chance to play, and for some songs, everyone sings along. Jeff is a multi-talented musician, and brings a mandolin, guitar, and keyboard to play. Jokes are made and songs are given a shot even if Jeff hasn’t played them before. The night is relatively new and is still lifting off the ground. It was an older crowd the night we went, but as long as you’re out of high school, you’ll have a good time.

Double Post Sunday! EHT Jamz on Saturday, May 03, 2009 (pics and videos)

Pratt's Outside

Pratt's Outside

This was my second time going to EHT Jamz ever, but my first time reporting on it. I grabbed a good chunk of pictures (some covered in the Review of EHT Jamz at Pratt’s Hill Of Beans in EHT, New Jersey). So without further ado, here are some pictures from EHT Jamz on Saturday, May 3rd 2009 at Pratt’s Hill Of Beans in NJ:
The night started out with a set from Adam Shaber and his dad, Matt on bongos.

There was a card game going on in the back

They said it was called clock!

As you can see, it must have been SOME kind of game. I asked Adam what his favorite song was from his set. “Ripple by the Grateful Dead“. I caught Vince March tuning outside of Pratt’s before his performance:

Which followed,

Devon Kelly joined Vince in the first song. There are two videos on facebook that (with permission) will be posted to this blog, so keep your eyes open for them! VIDEOS BELOW! I caught a “Panda” outside:

Right before I left, I grabbed a shot of Matt Shaber holding down the beat on the bongos:

And thanks again to Adam and Matt Shaber for bringing out the PA system and making it all possible!

EHT Jamz at Pratt’s Hill Of Beans in EHT, New Jersey

EHT Jamz Poster

EHT Jamz Poster

EHT Jamz at Pratt’s Hill of Beans is held every Saturday starting at 7pm. “Pratt’s” is located on 6106 Black Horse Pike, Unit B-4.  Adam Shaber and his dad Matt host EHT Jamz at Pratt’s, which is also the home of Alternative Soul. As always, you can grab good coffee and teas from around the world. EHT Jamz ends at 10pm and as the poster says, “All are welcome”.

The audience is primarily made up of people still in high school. Adam manages the Facebook page for the event night simply titled “Pratts Open Mic Night“[sic]. From the description:

“This is an Open Mic, all are welcomed to come and play music, read poetry, perform comedy, but please keep clean at the discretion of whoever is in the audience. just sign up when you get there. We have a PA system with speakers. There are 3 guitar outputs and 3 mic outputs. Please bring your OWN equipment (guitar, bass, bass amp, keyboard, etc). and try to not to use too much distortion pedals etc. It often overpowers the vocals. I have an extra guitar that you can use ONLY in the case that ur instrument breaks or you decide last minute that you want to perform. I will supply bongos and u can bring shakers. NO DRUM SET or SET PARTS, for they are too loud and overpower the vocals and instrumentals. There is no cover charge, so come if you have nothing better to do. “

Bring a friend with you and you both can get up and perform thanks to the available PA system. EHT Jamz is an overall good night for musicians and poets that allows for lots of socializing. This could very well be where the next young band forms.
